Oceania Championships Showcase the Pacific’s Best

No surprise, Naoero (formerly Nauru) was the leading nation at the 2026 Oceania Championships held in Melbourne.

The event’s show stopper was the Pacific island’s AI Temaki with his 425kg Squat, up 20kg from his last outing and narrowing the gap to the seemingly unbreakable 455kg WR of compatriot Jezza. Then came the eternal record setter Deamo Baguga, a Master now and still getting close to 800kg in the 94kg class, whilst at the other end of the age scale Kyle Notte set Youth World Records for Naoero.

Top Aussie in the men was Ben Hogan, his 685kg getting Ben past Wise Temaki for the first time in the 85s. In the Women’s Kelly Jarvie of Australia was well out in front on points and so the Women’s team title went Downunder.

Other nations were decimated by the usual visa problems, but Sri Lanka and Pakistan were well represented and runner up to AI Shane Nolan led a resurgent WPNZ.

All now march on to the World Championships in Amritsar, India in December.
