The referee course consists of a theory and practical component. The theory component can take up to 3 hours to complete and is run the day of competition. This includes a PowerPoint presentation followed by the theory exam which has a 1-hour time limit. You must score at least 80% in the theory exam to pass the theory component and move on to the practical component.
The practical component of the exam will take place during the competition. You must participate in a gear check, a weigh in, and at least 30 lifts of each the squat, bench, and deadlift as a side referee. You will be placed next to a qualified ref during your practical assessment. You will judge each lift, of which at least 80% of your judgement must correspond with your assessors decision on each lift in the practical component to pass the course and become a provisional referee.
It is expected that you will have read through the rulebook and have gained a thorough understanding of its contents prior to the course, as the presentation only provides a summary and review of this information. Please bring a pen and paper with you to both theory and practical components of the course. You must be wearing the PA referee uniform throughout the practical assessment.
